PERSONAL FILMS
(Selected FiLMOGRAPHY)
FICTION
(currently in development)
(TBA, Animation/Live Action)
This project is currently in development. This is a fully hand-animated film that when finished will also include live-action sequences featuring animation components. The final runtime will likely be somewhere around 40 minutes and the film will be made up of thousands of individual frames. This project has been a personal passion of mine and I’ve been working on it in my spare time since 2020. I guarantee the final result is going to be something I’m truly proud of. Although I don’t have a release date to share yet, I’m excited to unveil it as soon as it’s ready. Stay tuned for more updates!
COFFEE & YELLOW ROSES
(15:26min, Digital)
With this film I set myself the personal challenge to make a sweet project. To create at least one movie without any biting sarcasm, violent blood gags and one that would not have a darkly cynical overall tone. To make a fun and high-energy – after an intentionally slow start – romantic comedy that was colorful, moved fast and played around with genre. I’m thrilled to say that the end result exceeded my expectations! The movie was shot over five short but intensive days with and incredible team of professional artists, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.
Winner of “Best Romance” at the 9th Annual Northern Virginia International Film & Music Festival.
DINNERTIME
(9:47min, Digital)
This is a short film that I quickly put together after having gone several years without having personally directed any work of my own. I had been out of the film business for a couple years and wanted to create an exercise to stretch my filmmaking legs. Looking back, there are definitely things I would do differently today. However, I’m quite fond of the second half of the film.
APPLICATIONS
(7:23min, 35mm)
My first project made outside of university. This short was a way of exploring my personal struggles with physical appearance and society’s narrow standards of beauty. I wanted to create a commentary on the topic, while also paying tribute to an early short film from one of my favorite filmmakers. This film was shot on Kodak 35mm over two days, and I’m incredibly proud of how it turned out.
An official entry in the 2012 DC Shorts Film Festival and “Rosebud Award” winner at the 2011 Rosebud Film Festival.
RE:MESSIAH
(17:45min, HDV)
My undergraduate thesis project. A body horror sci-fi film that explores the early beginnings of alternative made-up online personalities and our ever evolving love of tech. Even though it was written and shot before most modern social media was a thing, I’m still proud of how it turned out and how it tackles relevant topics that are even more prevalent today.
Despite being filmed on a strict low-budget over the course of a week, it was a dark delight to pull off. It’s a project that’s very dear to me, and I would love to revisit it one day since our relationship with the internet and tech– has changed so much since I made the film.
AS OF YET UNTITLED: THE MOVIE
(5:02min, 8mm/16mm/Digital)
This was created for an experimental film course at university. At the time, I had some pretty pretentious ideas about filmmaking, and this project was a hyperbolic self parody of those thoughts. Despite being shot over the course of just one afternoon, the project involved multiple film formats, including digital, Kodak 8m, Kodak16mm, and Fuji 16mm. To achieve the effect at the end, I physically scratched the animation frame by frame onto the negative and then had the film processed to create a digital copy. It was a fun project to work on, and while the scratch animation was definitely a challenge, I’m proud of how it turned out. Even though it was created in a short period of time, it allowed me to explore creative ideas and techniques that I might not have had the chance otherwise.
ONCE UPON A TRAIN
(3:29min, Animation)
This film is first real attempt at animation. This started out as a university assignment to create a 30-second piece of animation. However, once I got started I found myself completely engrossed in the process and didn’t want to stop. The result is a silly, low-brow short that I’m still a fan of. I animated the entire thing, all 1,150 individual frames, by hand in just two weeks. It was a challenging but rewarding experience that gave me a newfound appreciation for the art of animation. Since then, I’ve continued to include animation into my projects when possible and have found that I really enjoy the process. It’s a unique form of storytelling that allows for so much creative freedom and expression.
1st Place Winner at the 1st VCU Student Film Festival in 2008 and 2nd Place Winner at the 15th James River Film Festival.
THE SUN AND THE MEDICINE MAN
(19:38min,Digital)
I was lucky enough to be approached by a friend who had a passion project he had wanted to bring to life, and he asked me to be the on-set director. It was an incredible opportunity for me to collaborate with someone I respect and I jumped at the chance. My friend’s vision was the driving force behind the project, and I worked hard to make sure everything ran smoothly during the week of filming. From scheduling to working with the actors, it was a great experience that I’m truly grateful for. I would love to have the chance to work as an on-set director again in the future.
